Frequently Asked Questions

Are you fully insured?

Yes – I am insured and bonded through Binks Insurance Brokers Limited. Please ask me to see a copy of the insurance forms during our initial consultation. I will be happy to produce them.

What cities do you serve?

We serve Montreal, NDG, Beaconsfield, DDO (west of Boul. St-Jean), Kirkland, Pierrefonds, Pointe-Claire, Dorval and Lachine.

Can you provide references?

Absolutely. If you would like to have a conversation with a few of my clients, just let me know and I will provide you with some references.

What separates One Leg Up from other dog walking companies?

I have had a passion for animals all my life and I will treat your pet as though they were one of my own. I spend my free time volunteering at a local dog rescue where I get to be around all types of dogs. These dogs are all different sizes, have different temperaments, and all come with different baggage. Volunteering at this shelter has really strengthened my understanding of dogs and made me an even more experienced dog lover.
I also am insured and bonded so your furry friend and property are protected in case of anything.

How do group walks work?

I group dog walks based on geography and the time of day that is requested by my clients. If I do not have any clients close by to you, then I will either transport your dog to a location to walk with other dogs or I will bring the dogs to your neighbourhood.

Where do you walk my dog?

On a private walk, I walk your dog in their neighbourhood. In a group walk, I will either be walking the pack in your dog’s neighbourhood or the neighbourhood of one of the pack members.

How will my dog be transported?

If transportation is required, your dog will be transported in a car. Every dog wears a safety harness when traveling in the car – this way there are no loose dogs that can be a distraction to the driver, nor will any dog be seriously injured in the case of an accident.

How many dogs do you walk at once?

I will walk up to 4 dogs at once, depending on the energy level and personalities of the dogs.

Are there any requirements for group walks?

Yes – your dog must be friendly with other dogs and be well socialized. Your dog must also be spayed/neutered as it is very difficult to walk a female in heat or have a pack accept an unneutered male.
If your dog is not social or not sterilized, there is always the option of a private walk.

Do you walk in rain, snow or cold weather?

As long as I can get my car out and it is safe to do so, we will be walking. Most dogs don’t care if it is raining or snowing. In fact, some of my best walks have been in terrible weather conditions! If I am unable to get to your home, I will phone you to let you know and we will come up with a solution.

I have a small dog. Does he really need a walk?

Absolutely! Regardless of his size, it is a dog’s instinct to walk and explore. By providing dogs with daily exercise we help them stay happy and healthy. Walking your dog doesn’t just provide him with physical exercise — it’s a source of mental stimulation. The better shape your canine friend is in, the healthier he will be, mentally and physically.

Is there are an extra fee for the administration of medication?

No, there is no extra fee for the administration of medication. If you have booked the cat sitting service, it is included. Even insulin injections? Yes, even insulin injections.

I have several cats and will be away for a few days. How many times will you show up to care for them and what will you do while you’re there?

I will come for as many or as few visits as you request. I’ll give recommendations based on how long you’ll be gone and how many cats you have. While I am at your place, I will feed your cats, refill water bowls, play/cuddle with them, and administer medication (if need be). I will also be cleaning the litter. I provide the following free services if they interest you: mail/newspaper retrieval, watering of plants, turn on/off lights, turn up/down the shades and bring garbage/recycling to the curb.

Do you board dogs?

No, unfortunately I don’t board dogs in my home. I have enough pets of my own, plus I also foster dogs from time to time. It would be quite stressful on my pets and your dog(s) to join and adjust to the pack in such a short period of time while you’re away.
